Healthy shrubs don't just happen. They need the right cut at the right time - and sometimes that means starting over. These shrubs had gone years without proper pruning. They were thick, tangled, and leggy, putting energy into old wood instead of producing healthy new growth.
We performed a hard rejuvenation cut to reset them completely. That's not a trim or a cleanup - it's a deliberate, aggressive prune that removes the bulk of the old structure so the plant can redirect its energy into strong new growth from the base. It's the right call when a shrub has gotten too far gone for a standard shaping.
What you're seeing across these photos is the full progression. From overgrown and struggling, to cut back hard, to fresh green growth pushing out. Now, after a round of light pruning to shape and guide that new growth, the shrubs are fuller, healthier, and structured in a way that's actually manageable going forward.
This is still a work in progress - rejuvenation takes time. But the hard part is done. The plants have room to breathe, the growth is redirected, and with regular maintenance from here, these shrubs are set up to stay healthy for years. That's the difference between just cutting things back and actually knowing what you're doing.
Summer is a solid time for light pruning and shaping to keep shrubs in check and encourage continued growth. If your shrubs are looking tired, overgrown, or just out of control, our landscape maintenance team can help figure out the right approach - whether that's a light shaping or a full reset like this one.
